PROJECT OVERVIEW
On March 18, 2024, Osmania University’s University College of Arts and Social Sciences launched an immersive light and sound show. This captivating production delves into the century-long history of the Osmania University Arts College, founded in 1917. The inauguration was graced by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy. Vice-Chancellor D. Ravinder highlighted the university’s dedication to academic and socio-cultural enrichment, anticipating a vibrant campus atmosphere each evening. Over the past year, a dedicated committee meticulously curated the university’s historical milestones.
The Department of Archaeology scripted this engaging narrative, providing a voiceover by Tollywood actor Sai Kumar, who lent his voice for the Telugu version. The 30-minute laser show, featuring two-weekend performances, offers an enriching blend of education and entertainment.
WHAT DID THE CLIENT WANT TO ACHIEVE?
With this project, Osmania University aims to achieve several key objectives. Firstly, it seeks to preserve and celebrate the rich history of the University College of Arts and Social Sciences, instilling a sense of pride and appreciation for the university’s heritage among students, faculty, and visitors. The immersive show enhances the educational experience by providing an innovative and engaging way to learn about the university’s history, making learning more interactive and memorable.
Additionally, the project contributes to the socio-cultural life on campus, offering an evening attraction that combines education and entertainment. This helps create a vibrant campus atmosphere and serves as a cultural touchstone for the university community. The successful integration of cutting-edge technology with historic architecture demonstrates the university’s commitment to modernization while respecting tradition, setting a benchmark for future initiatives. SCOPE OF WORK YOUR COMPANY WAS INVOLVED IN
We served as both the project acoustics consultant and project systems integrator. Our responsibilities encompassed a comprehensive range of tasks crucial to the project’s success. As the project acoustics consultant, we were responsible for designing and implementing an advanced audio system that ensured optimal sound quality and clarity throughout the installation. This involved meticulous planning and calibration to align with the unique acoustical requirements of the venue.
In our role as the project systems integrator, we managed the installation and integration of sophisticated AV equipment, including lighting, sound systems, and projectors. Our team ensured that all components were seamlessly integrated and operated in harmony to deliver a captivating and immersive experience. While Rhino Engineers Pvt. Ltd. served as the project management and design consultant, overseeing the overall project execution, we focused on the technical and systems aspects, ensuring that every detail met the highest performance and quality standards.
WHAT KEY CHALLENGES WERE FACED?
We faced several significant challenges during the installation of the light and sound show at Osmania University. Firstly, syncing the physical structure of the historic building with the advanced technology modules was a major obstacle. Ensuring that the cutting-edge lighting and sound systems integrated seamlessly with the university’s architectural aesthetics without altering its iconic appearance required careful planning. Secondly, the complexity and delicacy of the systems posed logistical difficulties. Transporting and setting up sophisticated equipment such as RGBW façade lights, moving head lights, and Christie projectors demanded precision and expertise. Additionally, managing the intricate network of cables and conduits without disrupting the campus environment added to the
complexity of the task.
Lastly, working within a limited budget presented financial constraints. Despite these constraints, we had to ensure high-quality production, which involved overcoming challenges in creating the video story, script, and music. These creative and technical hurdles were compounded by the need to optimize resources effectively.
HOW WERE THOSE CHALLENGES RESOLVED?
Despite the significant challenges faced during the installation of the light and sound show at Osmania University, our team employed innovative solutions and meticulous planning to overcome them successfully. To address the challenge of syncing advanced technology with the historic building’s structure, we designed custom speaker enclosures using stones that matched the existing materials of the university. We employed precision techniques to install RGBW façade lights, moving head lights, and Christie projectors, ensuring minimal disruption to the campus environment. Careful management of the network of cables and conduits further ensured a smooth installation process. Working within a limited budget required resourcefulness and prioritization. We optimized our resources by focusing on essential elements and leveraging creative problem-solving. The video story, script, and music were developed through collaborative efforts, ensuring high-quality production despite financial constraints.
Overall, the collaborative and innovative efforts of our team enabled us to preserve the historical integrity of Osmania University while delivering a captivating and technologically advanced light and sound show.
